after the world applauded sascha funke for his latest album lotos land, he gave away some tunes to friends for remix duties. düsseldorf based tolouse low trax formed twirl into a foggy dark mpc-seducer for romantic nighthawks that love dancing. also australian boy dreems prepared a remix that grooves odd and uncommon. his percussive version of im feiern und feuer is a slow whirlwind, perfect to start and end a great dj night. with tuff city kids a duo formed a remix that is good for big room love affairs. their version of purple hill is a heartfelt melange between trance and house deepness that works on any dance floor. the final edit comes from glasgows junto club, who transformed comola, a tune that they already produced originally with sascha funke, into a longing dark melodic synth stepper. four versions, four hits, four atmospheric dimensions beyond words. tune it loud!

the first nena album was released as part of the music genre called neue deutsche welle, new german wave movement in the german music. all five members of the band contributed to the songwriting. they were a unique group of musicians with a strong intuitive grasp of both classic pop and rock formulas. nena insisted that she saw herself as a member of the band and not as their leader.

recently, superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in south africa. he bought a custom made safari hat at his favorite milliner in cologne (ju&#776,,,rgen eifler) and set off with big eyes and a pair of binoculars. it was wild and wonderful and he saw many exotic (and big!) animals, even a leopard in a tree that told him the secret of the universe. he forgot what the leopard said because his mind was still playing and replaying the sound of what he heard on the first night of his arrival – the hypnotic and moving sound of the voices of africa, the voices of the wonderful tanda tula staff choir. there, the choir members work during the day at the camp and at night entertain the guests with their captivating voices and energetic dancing. so impressed was he with their songs and beautiful shangaan language that he decided to record a cd for them to sell in the shop at their camp and now this precious recording is also available through hippie dance / bush recordings on vinyl and cd for you in whatever wherever camp you are. the lp of the tanda tula choir comes with a very pretty poster.

the warmth and empathy who seem to be the driving force behind noro vanish and leave place to insanity and darkness present and growing throughout lothar. on the flip side, the eponymous track shows a rave-like up-tempo beat being outweighed by the sadness of its melodic elements, until finally in crimson, a quiet and unstoppable force pushing us out of the abyss until we reach the initial point again.

the copenhagen based pop wonders blaue blume return with a new ep - sobs. the band formed around 6 years ago in a provincial danish town, drawn to each others love for rich, playful music. blaue blume (blue flower) is the epitome of a romantic band, their songs are brimming with love and yearning. now ‘sobs, the follow up to their ‘syzygy album in 2015, continues to build their reputation as a best kept secret, about to find a whole new audience of devotees. all four tracks for the ep were recorded in late 2016 in a three story villa, formerly owned by a religious cult. the band used the weird space away from the city to create a framework for the lyrics and the music. the band explains: blaue blume has been our band for about 6 years. in a bigger provincial town we started playing right out of highschool. at the moment we live in copenhagen and every day we play, write and work on sounds. its sort of become a life project. in our heads we make music that is playful, rich in detail and popish or somewhat smiling. for some beautifully inexplicable reason we ended up doing music together. in a way it seems sacred or at least meaningful. macabre is a happy song about being afraid of dying. some of us find that even the best life can be lonely sometimes. we found it interesting to address this taboo within the frame of a song that people could potentially dance or sing along to.

a new label services deal with !k7 was announced this year that will see the relaunch of the two hundred & forty volts label and for the first time ever the entire swayzak back catalogue. to celebrate the re-launch and ultimately draw a line under the old material a 19 track retrospective will released shortly afterwards on dec 1. the lost tapes compilation will include some of their seminal classics, unreleased versions and a brand new single from swayzak & richard davis, all paving way for the new album next year.

following a run of local transmissions from a sagittariun, crump, rob smith and atki2, idle hands turns its attention to berlin and the straight-up, no-nonsense techno thrust of johanna knutsson and hans berg. both respected artists and djs in their own right, the pair have been turning out 12inches together for the free spirit society, klasse and crime city disco over the past few years, but most importantly they ve been steering the excellent ufo station recordings as a vessel for their punchy, primal techno tracks. the sound on this ep taps into the pure form of stern, dark dancefloor tackle favoured at idle hands – no extraneous filler, plenty of space in the mix, but equally built with warmth and personality rather than monochrome functionality. if you need further proof, just look to the fact the ep is named after a swedish soap opera from the 90s. the bleeps and bass tones that pulse through -taggen- are so finely crafted they need not skip and dance around the arrangement. the melodic interplay on -klimax- is subtle but ultimately uplifting and optimistic where so much techno concerns itself with oppressive gloom. -bimbo- finds the pair embracing a more psychedelic approach, but even here the modulating effects processes are kept within certain boundaries so as to not dilute the impact on the floor. after all, this is music to dance to, to be felt over a large system (where possible). moving from leftfield bass excursions to minimalist 2-step, uk techno and now onto this much more continental sound, themälarviken ep continues to widen the range of idle hands musical tastes without losing sight of the complete picture.

merveille & crosson return to visionquest this october with their second long player, entitled cerulean and featuring nine original compositions from the duo. 2012 saw the release of cesar merveille & ryan crossons critically acclaimed inaugural long player drm, seeing the pair veer their output into abstract realms and embrace a more eclectic left on centre production style. here five years later the pair return with their second album cerulean, again tipping the focus over to a modern classical, jazz, ambient and abstract aesthetic, featuring collaborations with juliard trained classical pianist julien quinten, no regular play’s greg paulus on trumpet, wareika’s henrik raabe on guitar, yonathan levi on double bass, moritz baumgartner adding additional drum work and berlins signum saxophone quartet. across the ‘cerulean’ project merveille, crosson and all involved offer up an amalgamation of sounds and styles from the freeform jazz odyssey styles of even tides and nordic bummers to the ethereal ambience of intro (almost raw) and mcyh whilst subtly nodding towards their minimal roots with acid pal and qaudra. the pair also radiantly display their love for the new age modular synth style with arp and life in the 80s with intricately programmed, dynamic melodies throughout, all in all resulting in a truly unique and forward thinking project from an array of talents.

after putting out kito jempere s stunning sea monster album earlier in the year, hell yeah now serve up a bunch of remixes from it that have been secret weapons for the last few months. behind them are black spuma, lipelis and bell towers and they all serve up real heaters. first up with possibly their best ever remix are black spuma—a collaboration between phillip lauer (tuff city kids, arto mwambe) and fabrizio mammarella (telespazio)—who flip ampa into a bootylicious house cut with fat bass stabs and sci-fi synths. it s retro in flavour and riddled with melodies that are brightly coloured and emotive, and when the vocal is layered in it helps carry you away on a wave of bliss. for djs who prefer to keep things raw, a dub version without the vocals is also included and bangs that bit harder.

mr. statik with previous contributions from joe claussell, move d, mr. ties, reagenz, discrete circuit and their very own away soundsystem, the berlin label away achieved a great deal of attention since its first release back in 2015. after having played at their infamous party series before, the greek all-rounder mr. statik now also debuts as a producer on away. as emphasized with releases on such labels as bpitch control, amam, or rotary cocktail, the resident of athens club six d.o.g.s draws inspiration from pop culture like science-fiction movies as well as comic books, also reflected in his rogue cherub ep. info rogue cherub ep its an open secret that mr. statik has a strong penchant for working with vocalists, and the title track is no different. starting off with an ingenious medley assembled through samples, rhythmic elements, and a funk-infused bass-line, rogue cherub ep highlights the greeks unordinary approach on house music. despite the partly broken, partly playful vibe its dave ajus distinctive voice holding everything together in a serene fashion. no less than the acknowledged master matthew herbert himself scales the hybrid down, attaching just the right disco-house touches to create yet another dance floor gem. morning star on the flipside tops off aways fifth catalogue number by a well-crafted techno-meets-dub workout unfolding mr. statiks versatile core strengths as a producer.

scissor & thread ramp up the heat with the debut release by virginias deep house don, dj aakmael. known for his infectious grooves and deep and intricate instrumentation for more than two decades, this four track ep is in no short supply of teased out, peak time, classic deep house. the titular track wastes no time on the a-side with its hard hitting kick and springy bass holding court, while a hypnotic serpentine synth snakes along. the a2, what iz deep house, is a lesson for those who dont know what true deep house is. woozy, edgy chords take the spotlight as a dissociated voice slurs, what is deep house? a relentlessly thick kick, along with sharp as razors hi-hats and snaps, throttle the track into peak time territory. on the flip, sands is an aquatic affair, with its reverb laden pads and piano chord stabs submerging the floor in pelagic atmosphere. the persistent, euphoric bassline bump effortlessly slides its hooks into the listeners ears before a celestial piano melody pierces through the depths. frank & tony take things even deeper with their late night breakaway dub, applying their signature bass line touch and hi-hat shuffle in what may be their best remix to date.

hailing from the london rat race, mux step forward with the first release on teenage father and lay their distinctive style out for all to witness. their broad-reaching indie rock sound has undertones of electronica, grunge and a very british swagger that deserves to get them onto radio playlists and festival line ups aplenty. -mdma- rumbles along somewhere between soulwax, kasabian and queens of the stone age, while -teenage father- ups the intensity with a punky thrum behind the raucous guitars and grinding synths, and then -stray- finds the band mixing up the time signatures for the most adventurous cut on the record.

swedish artist ubx127 is back on figure with what might just be his most accomplished release to date. spanning an arc cross four diverse tracks, the story told is abstract yet full of imagination. gently pulsating crystalline opener woid carefully sets a vast open scene, covered in gushes of interplanetary winds. first contact is made on a2, its electro-esque drive and spiky synths hinting at its alien origins. a taste of their mighty technology is given on watch out below, booming with a propulsive punch and constantly swelling in intensity. relief comes in form of singularity, a beautiful, long-winding closer, on which soothing arps effortlessly outweigh their beaty counterparts. having already proven his mastery of the machines with three stellar eps for the label last year, this record further showcases ubx127s special talent of crafting tunes that are as ripe with drama as they are ready for the floor.
